Third Floor Radio

(VIDEOS) Day 1 & Day 2: Detroit Myspace & Budweiser Opening Act Tour f. Jon B. 7/23/2011 + 7/24/2011

Started off in trouble already… DJ Knuckles was accidently booked on a flight from LAX to Detroit and not Sacramento, so he had to rush driving from KMEL radio station in San Francisco to Sac to catch a flight to LA. Good thing there are random car poolers you can pick up! ;) We found Texas de Brazil which was texas sized meat cooked & served in the Brazilian fashion. We sat for hours grubbing and debating on everything from Facebook Spam to IPhone vs. Blackberries. Ended the night visiting the Motown Records museum and checking out LAX (didn’t know they had one in the D?) to watch DJ Clue spin – coincidentally staying in our hotel. Make sure you say hi to his security Chris Ratcliffe if you ever see him around town!

Day 1: Detroit

Our first show at the Lucky’s Bar and Grill was a success. Such a hard choice between the two finalists: Lamar Anthem and Johnny Manuel, but Johnny won due to his stage presence and originality. The judges felt that although Lamar’s performance of Maxwell’s “A Woman’s Worth” was amazing, Johnny went above the grain to write and sing his own original song. (Unfortunately didn’t have footage of that song but will soon at www.myspace.com/openingact

Highlight of the night? Of course rockin the Cupid Shuffle with the 313′ers including radio hosts Miss Fantasee Blu and Miss Paigion. I am going to personally make that song jump up the Itunes chart again. ;)

Being it the month of my 7 year anniversary of working with Myspace – the theme of my playlist will be
“The Walls of My Space” – a collective of music that I’ve heard blasting from the computers of our incredibly talented music experts and editors (Too many to name but you guys know who you are!) as well as throughout the country during our years of live shows throughout the country. Thank you not only to employees and former employees of our company, but the hundreds of DJs, tastemakers & music lovers that I’ve got to meet and how they have expanded my ears to listen outside of the box. I thank you all for the experience in getting to learn more about music outside of my normal realm which ranges from anything like “Cupid Shuffle” in Atlanta to Major Lazer in New York City…
Exciting new changes to come soon to Myspace Music that everyone is working hard on and within the next few months you will see the fruition.

Questions to ponder:
1. What was your first concert? (Yes, our family’s was New Kids on the Block that’s why sister Rach was dying this week near front row at their concert Wednesday ;)

3. What is in your current playlist?
4. Where do you go now to learn about new music? (hint, hint…;)

DJ Rhettmatic: “JustRight is celebrating J.Dilla on his birthday…”

A letter from DJ Rhettmatic:

Peace Everyone….

It’s been 5 years since my man Dilla has passed away due to complications from Lupus (he passed away Feb 10, 2006….3 days after his birthday and the release of his official final album, Donuts). I released this mix 3 years ago….Since it’s Dilla’s birthday today (Feb. 7….he would’ve been 37 today), I figured I share this mix with everyone again even though it’s been out before……Below is the description of the mix from my Myspace blog (i know…who still uses Myspace?!). Peep it out and enjoy……Happy Birthday Dilla….i miss you bro.

Download the link HERE.

or listen to it from HERE.

Also, a reminder…..Tonight if you’re in Los Angeles, we will be celebrating our brother J Dilla at the Little Temple (4519 Santa Monica Blvd. LA, 90029). Myself, Houseshoes, Babu, Mayer Hawthorne, Dj Numark, Dj Jedi, Monalisa, as well as of other local LA Djs will be providing some tunes to remember our fallen musical brother…be sure to come out and support. All proceeds will be going to help out Mr & Mrs Yancey….please donate as much as you can.

From DJ RHETTMATIC
www.myspace.com/rhettmatic
Myspace Blog – Feb. 6, 2009:

“February is the month that everybody usually connects Valentine’s Day with. But for me & for some other people, we consider February “Dilla Month”, because it is the month that our fallen brother and one of the greatest Hip Hop producers of all time, James D. Yancey aka J Dilla, was born & passed away on that same month (Feb. 7, 1974 – Feb. 10, 2006).

In honor & to celebrate the life & music of the honorable “Dill Withers”, i decided to put my bid in for a tribute mix. I know there’s going to be alot of Dilla tribute mixes out there, but i thought it doesn’t hurt to add another one. Plus the Funky President himself, J.Rocc, asked me to do some exclusive mixes for his blog (www.stoneyjackson.blogspot.com), so why not do a Dilla mix. It is appropriate given the occasion. Personally, i don’t think there’s no out there that can do a better J Dilla mix than my fellow Beat Junkie, J.Rocc…..the closest one next to him I would say is my brother from another mother, “Detroit’s Finest” own, Dj Houseshoes, but yeah, here’s my input.

Anyways, this is a mini mega mix of some of Dilla’s songs & production. I originally did this as a 10 minute mix for the mixtape project that J.Rocc, Houseshoes, & myself did with Dave New York 2 years ago to help out Mrs. Maureen Yancey aka Ma Dukes, Dilla’s mother…..an incredible lady (if y’all know the name of the mix cd project, go head & get it……) So I extended this mix from 10 minutes to 35 minutes. It was pretty much impossible for me to get everything that Dilla did on this mix (he has such a big discography, it’s ridiculous), especially for the fact I wanted to finish this before his birthday in such a short period of time. Of course, you’ll hear some of the classic songs that Dilla has produced in the mix, but you’ll also get to here some Dilla beats that you might have or have not heard before, and a live recording of Dilla performing “F*ck The Police” at one of his show in Europe (Paris, France to be exact) on his last tour ever (I was lucky & honored to be his tour dj for his last performances).

Like I said before, I don’t think anyone can do a J Dilla mix as great as J.Rocco’s, but here’s my mix for you to download…nothing really crazy. Please feel free to share with your friends & post it up on your music blog. I hope you enjoy the mix as much as I enjoyed making this. Thanks for checkin this out.”

Patricio Ginelsa: “JustRight to him is…” & Black Eyed Peas perform at Superbowl halftime today, will.i.am to tweet LIVE from the Dallas stadium

To director Patricio Ginelsa JustRight is:
giving “thanks to Roslynn Cobarrubias, Polo Molina, & Dj Rockyrock, I got my first big break and can brag I directed a Super Bowl Halftime band in TWO music videos. Congrats Black Eyed Peas and good luck representing us all today!!!

Watch the “Behind the Scenes” of the making of the BEP “APL Song” music video below:

“The APL Song” off the multi-platinum BEP “Elephunk” album was a tribute to the native land of the Philippines that apl.de.ap of BEP was born in, he was later adopted in his teenage years by a man that was roommates with will.i.am’s uncle which makes for an amazing story of the birth of BEP or Atbann Klann many years ago. Patricio heard “the APL Song” and immediately wrote a treatment that included shining light on the third world country and forgotten Filipino War veterans, while also showcasing some of the most prominent young Filipino American figures like Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, DJ Rhettmatic, Dante Basco, Joy Bisco and many more. As soon as I read the treatment, I was emotionally touched by the story, thinking of my own Papa who was a veteran and felt the the synopsis needed to be brought to life. I immediately passed it on to Polo/management and the Peas. After only a few weeks later, magic happened and the music video was produced below, which was a huge accomplishment for us all in giving back to our community as Filipino Americans. It’s what we hope to continue to do with the JustRight Project.

The offline celebration of “The APL Song” became one of the first big Myspace launch events in August of 2004 that we produced with Jerry Meng, Polo Molina and several production companies working alongside Ginelsa’s team, with both Myspace.com co-founders Chris DeWolfe and Tom Anderson attending with many of you.

Watch the recap of the event below:

Watch “The APL Song” music video belowi a couple times not only to spot funny cameos by some of us, but for the deeper meaning in the synopsis of the video with the veterans and share it with family members, co-workers or friends who haven’t seen it yet. As I am guilty of it myself, sometimes we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives that we forget about taking care of and respecting our elders as much as we should.

I really enjoyed every part of picking all the clothing in the video, working as the temporay Little Brown GIrl stylist for the day. (Thanks Des/Marv for letting us borrow the awesome two-tone barong for the video ;)

Speaking of the Peas, as you’ve heard, today they will be performing for the 2nd time during the halftime of the Steelers vs. Packers Superbowl today for one of the biggest performances in their lives. They have exactly 12 minutes to turn the halftime into a party that entertains us all. will.i.am hopes to reach 1MM followers to give a unique experience to fans worldwide tuning in. Follow him on twitter.com/iamwill for up to date updates from the field today. Congrats to APL for being the first Filipino to ever perform during a Superbowl! We’ll be watching proudly. It makes re-watching and listening to your verses on “The APL Song” all the more special…

I don’t think any of us have a better view than will’s on the field below. It’s fun to follow the action in realtime on his twitter page. Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber already re-tweeted about the excitement of today’s unique show “It’ll be a party in the middle of the game,” Fergie promises. “All of the sudden, whether your team is winning or losing, we want to make you have a good time. That’s our goal.” She adds, “It’s a gig that everybody wants, It feels so natural with us partnering up with the NFL because we’re sports fans and we write a lot of sports anthems. It’s what we do. It’s a good combination – like chips and salsa.”

.

BEP’s frontman Will adds what’s JustRight to him on this big day:
“So when Fergie is doing her part, and (other group members apl.de.ap and Taboo) are doing their part, wouldn’t it be awesome to send a tweet to all the people that are following … bring the people even closer to the stage.” He says. You’ve got cameras. On my little tweet machine and my little camera and my phone, why can’t I really (connect with followers)? … Kids are watching the TV, and they’re on their phones. Why not really have that engagement to continue that? So that will be the first time that’s ever been done (during a Super Bowl halftime). I’m proud of that.”

Curious as to what you think of the show and music video, comment below:

p.s. Jimmy (Taboo) – I promise you won’t get another text about the Superbowl outfit today, just make sure it’s a good one and not bright purple. ;)

Introduction of the JustRight Mix

JUSTRIGHT MIX PROJECT W/ DJ JAY-P from ErokTV on Vimeo.

JustRight Verses: Delta 9 MCs

Shout out to the homies, DELTA 9 MCs for recording this song and video for the JustRight Project!!

JustRight music while getting amped for a Clipper game to Blake Griffin is…

A few wks ago our editorial team was shooting a video with Blake Griffin and post shoot I tagged along & had to take the time to show him some of my shooting skills. Too bad the camera captured NONE of these skills. We ran out of space on the digital camera before we can show the ones I made! I SWARE I made one. But sadly, there is no proof… But next time you see Blake, ask him about it, he was there to witness it! ;)

JustRight is making at least one shot so I wouldn’t embarrass myself in front of one of the best dunkers of our time. Can’t wait to see what he has planned for the NBA All Star Weekend Dunk contest. He’s making L.A. turn out in droves again to watch a Clipper game like the other night where they actually Beat the Heat. Such a fun bandwagon to jump on. ;)

Check out what Blake likes to listen to his hear on his playlist HERE. His tastes range from Kid Cudi to Kanye to Wiz Khalifa and Rick Ross before he gets JustRight before a game. Visit him at www.myspace.com/blake_griffin
