(VIDEO) GAME Interview with Shira Lazar on What’s Trending 8/23/11, the day his new album released on Myspace.com, DeSTORM “Rapping Movie Titles” performance & BIG SEAN on next Tues!

GAME: “There will be tweets in the future that will make headlines”

(CBS/What’s Trending)
written by: Douglas Sarine

Game is a two-time Grammy nominated rapper whose debut album “The Documentary” has sold over 2.5 million copies. His new project “The RED Album” is out and full of collaboration with new artists and old friends.

Game, grew up in the Compton area of Los Angeles and was a member of the infamous gang The Bloods. Game got into rap after recovering in the hospital from a gang fight. He is now an international artist who has worked with such hip-hop greats as Dr. Dre and 50 Cent.

When talking about the current state of hip-hip Game explained that music constantly changes and that currently it seems like it belongs to pop culture, but that he tries to stay grounded. Game, describe himself as a chameleon, but clarified that he still tries to “stay true to who I am.”

Game’s recent controversy surrounding a tweet from his account that gave the number of the Compton Sheriffs Department trended last week. Game told us that it was someone else playing a joke using his phone that sent the tweet. And when asked if he was worried about his phone being a dangerous weapon Game quipped, “I’m not worried. My charges have been dropped.”

He went on to explain that he thinks the reason they let him go was because there is no law against social networking, but that he suspect they will soon develop one.
“I’m pretty sure they got a team of experts working on how to lock you up for tweeting,” Game said.

When asked what people could expect from his new “RED album” Game joked, “Expect me to be on the cover and definitely expect me to be on it.” I guess to find out the real story, you’ll have to buy the album, available on MySpace.

Rapper/singer/songwriter, DeStorm Power came to the What’s Trending studio and got the audience bumping with a live performance of his viral hit “Rapping Movie Titles.”

DeStorm is known for his amazing YouTube channel where he does everything from original songs to the most original sounding covers you’ve ever heard. He’s reached the landmark recently of one million subscribers and is consistently sought for collaborations by creative peers and major brands.

Power is also famous for accepting “challenges” from his audience and accomplishing them by turning them into remarkable songs. The “Rapping Movie Titles” song he performed in the What’s Trending studio came from a fan who asked him to make a song about his life using 50 movie titles. DeStorm took it up a notch by using over 100.
When asked about the difference between his independent YouTube model and working for a traditional music label Power said, “I enjoy what I do cause I can put the music out when I want. I don’t have to wait for anybody.”

(VIDEO) Karina Smirnoff of Dancing with the Stars attempts to teach us how to salsa & she “dougies” with the crew…

We had a blast hanging out with the beautiful and fun Karina Smirnoff of Dancing With the Stars while she shot her segment for Good Day LA on Fox. Can’t wait to see who her partner is this time, my favorites of course is when she partnered with Mario (singer), Mario Lopez and last season with Ralph Macchio.

Rhey teaching Karina how to “Catdaddy” above is CLASSIC! ;)

(VIDEO PREMIERE) Jay-Z & Kanye West “Otis”

Take from ROC 4 LIFE:
Just moments ago, JAY-Z and Kanye West aka “The Throne” premiered their brand new video for “Otis”, directed by Spike Jonze. For the video, they avoided the over the top theatrics and decided to just keep it fun, and casual. We love the energy that they are giving. I mean, who else can completely destroy a Maybach in a music video? Well done, guys.

Sidebar: The Maybach that was destroyed in the video will be donated for famine relief.

(VIDEO) Black Eyed Peas will.i.am: “There should be science programs in every school.” NEW show about 20th Annual FIRST Robotics Competition airs on ABC 8/14. Episode also features Mike Relm & comedian Lani Love.

(CBS/What’s Trending) – Seven-time Grammy award winner Will.i.am, best known for being the frontman of the Black Eyed Peas, believes in the importance of science in America. He thinks it’s time that our schools start focusing on the basic building block of technology. “We should be supporting our geniuses…these are the leaders of the world in the next ten years.” Will.i.am explained on the What’s Trending Live show. “You can’t sit and wait for (people) to do things that you know should be done.”

www.myspace.com/williamofficial

This week’s #Influencer, Wii.i.am said he was inspired to start the “i.AM FIRST: Science is Rock & Roll” program after he was on tour and riding his Segway backstage. After tracking down the inventor of the technology behind it, Dean Kamen, he started a friendship with the man he calls, “…today’s Edison.” The entertainer’s conversations with Kamen made him realize that a dedication on teaching and celebrating science and technology needed to be brought back to U.S. schools.

Will.i.am explained that Kamen’s U.S. F.I.R.S.T (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), “Teaches kids from 8 to 19 about science, technology, engineering and mathematics.”

Using his own money, he bought air time from ABC to feature a live back-to-school special about the kids who competed at the 20th Annual F.I.R.S.T. Robotics Competition, an event which aims to inspire young people to become science and technology leaders. In addition to a live performance from the Black Eyed Peas, the show also includes appearances by Justin Bieber, Bono and Justin Timberlake.

The Black Eyed Peas founder said that making sure science is highlighted in eduction is his priority. In 2008, Will.i.am was instrumental in getting people out to vote through his viral videos. He said, “I’m only going to make a video when I’m inspired,” he explained. “The whole Crypts and Bloods, Republican Democrat hoopla. I’m not about that. I’m about true innovation, true inspiration and that inspiration is via technology and watching these kids do amazing things.”

About the kids at the F.I.R.S.T competition Will.i.am said, “You have to applaud these kids. You have acknowledge what they’re doing.”

(VIDEO) Day 8: St. Louis, Missouri (Myspace & Budweiser Opening Act Tour) 7/30/2011

We teamed up with Cafe Soul to produce this year’s St. Louis finals at the Loft.
Hundreds came out to fill the room to capacity with those in support of their local talent. A tough competition but Theresa Payne came out the winner with Monya in a close 2nd. They will be performing at the August 4 Superfest this week. DJ Jay-P rocked the crowd before he show as usual.

While we were in STL, we had some downtime to check out local landmarks and sites. As well as win a few dollars at the local casino at the craps and blackjack tables. Unfortunately it was raining so we didn’t get to do as much as we wanted.

Gotta say, this is the FIRST time someone proposed to their wife on stage! Deandre (former American Idol contestant) asks for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage before performing his song, “Because of You.”

Winners:
4th Place: Mai Lee
3rd Place: Deandre
2nd Place: Monya
1st Place: Theresa Payne

Highlight? The wobble! Video coming soon alongside the professional Adam Nelson Photography edit.

BUT! There’s still 6 more cities to go!

(VIDEO) Day 6 of Tour: CHICAGO. DWELE rocks SOLD-OUT (capacity) at FREE Budweiser Opening Act Show, powered by Myspace Music. Congratulations Candice Marie!

A dream come true to be able to help put together the Budweiser Opening Act Tour before the Superfest tour with one of the most talented, hard working independent artists I know – DWELE. Randy Nangpi, Adam Nelson, DJ Jay-P, DJ Knuckles, DJ Rasta Root, Steve Vera, Rhey Duque, Jeanette Sario, Issiah Davis, Lisa Schmitz and the entire Myspace team (every department from legal to sales to marketing) and I have enjoyed every minute of executing this program from soup to nuts with Budweiser and our Radio One Partners. It’s been a long process since conceptualizing the contest on Myspace, building the community, sorting through the contestants, executing the live events and providing Budweiser with their local winners.

Not only do you get to see an amazing Superfest tour ft. Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Mint Condition & Doug E. Fresh but a week prior you can see a great show with Detroit native & amazing musician, artist & DJ – Dwele – all for FREE!

Dwele & I met several years ago (and yes – he was STILL rockin the freshest ADIDAS back then) way before there was Myspace and we were instant friends post interview on our Los Angeles based underground hip hop & soul radio show called – Third Floor Radio… In the early days of Myspace, we didn’t have 200 MM registered users… we had less than 2MM and Dwele was one of the first 100 artists I forced to get a Myspace page and even created for him. (Artists were unsure of what social networking was during those early years.)

Watch the interview and watch his sentiment
(which mirrored alot of your and other artists/label sentiment)
before we all understood what Myspace was going to be for us.
I know there are many of you that we also created pages for including
De La Soul, Mos Def, Slum Village, Kanye West, etc.
And when you didn’t understand it – you still accepted the offer to shoot an interview for the pages, thank you!

I knew ONE day – you would GET it. and you did!
The power of social networking for the artist was born in this time period…
Thanks to Chris Dewolfe, Tom Anderson and the original 5 for creating such an innovative product – in our evolving days, I feel the Myspace profile will always be a crucial part to the success of an artist connecting with their fans and vise versa.

Here is a highlight piece from last night’s SOLD OUT CAPACITY show before Adam Nelson’s professionally edited video comes out at the end of the month where you can actually vote for your favorite artist or city at www.myspace.com/openingact
(Hi Ice! (Who designed the page!) We miss you!)

and here’s the latest LA Times Cover story of our new owners – the Vanderhook Brothers and creative director – Justin Timberlake.

Such an exciting time for Myspace, your space and most importantly… Artists, DJs, producers, writers, etc… It’s an exciting innovative platform that I am happy to keep promoting as the tools will continue to help you grow the success of your career or passion through your own creative network who also use the site. All of the talented and amazing artists we have met so far – we can’t wait to watch your growth from this entire process.

Speaking of network…
did I tell you that Dwele’s background singers re-connected with him via Myspace?
I’ll film the interview with J.Tait in St. Louis tomorrow so you can hear his story of connecting with Dwele on the site post attending a music conference…
I’d love to continue to hear your Myspace stories as well…
I’ve literally heard hundreds and never get tired of hearing about them!
Message me them at myspace.com/roslynn

(VIDEOS) “Just Another Girl…” and here’s what really happened… why I stopped DJing…

I was inspired to repost the 4 part “Just Another Girl” series below after having a heart to heart talk with bestie Maude Duque Ek and lunch with old close friends, one being a new young DJ that is on the rise that I hope you guys get to hear spin next week at DJ Jay-P & Vince Garcia’s Capsule Barbershop next week.

Amazed that he is now a DJ and knows every genre of music from house to neosoul makes me so proud. Ever since he was a young kid, he loved listening to music – he remembered word for word every song at such a young age. (Kind of how Marlee Rae- my little niece of a genius does now. Click to watch her ADELE COVER here.. ;) It was nice to hear that the young DJ remembered that I would show him how to use the turntables (the very first ones that DJ Concise, Jay-P and Analog would used to host Third Floor Radio from my old bedroom that we bought from Shawn of Deux Process) – (SIDE NOTE: I love you Dizzy Dustin of Ugly Duckling, but your coke bottle filled with alcohol in the CSUF Titan Radio studio got us kicked off the station so we were forced to try to host it from my house! You owe us! ;)

Sorry I got sidetracked but while reminiscing, I thought back to over 7 years ago of why I stopped DJing on a regular, the first being that I was totally intimidated by all the guys out there who were quick to call out my errors but secondly – the person I thought would be the most supportive was the exact opposite. Being a girl that has loved music since my early days recording Hollywood Hamilton countdowns on KIIS FM (back when it was an urban/hip hop station) – to play at lunch at Shelyn Elementary school- I felt the natural progression as I got older to start learning how to really technically DJ since I already felt like I already knew what people wanted to hear. Not just the big ASB speakers at Walnut High School – but actual turntables. I remember being at Sureshot’s house a few times and scared to even touch a record because of hearing how wrong I was doing it lol. Or wondering how I can create my own “Darwinism” mix tape like Glen Brieva – tagging along to the group trips with Jason Gerodias, Melvyn Castro and Ivy Quejado to Fat Beats, the DMC and so on just to get a glimpse of DJ Q-Bert. Some of you like bestie Mike Park have the first mixed cassette that had Black Star, Ugly Duckling, Dilated Peoples and Jurassic 5 on it that I was so happy to make at WHS. Thus the inspiration for being a professional promoter for music was born…

So why did I REALLY stop DJing?
At the time I was in what I thought was a very supportive and loving relationship. It actually was on the outside. We supported each other’s careers by promoting each other’s events and talents. I made it a point that as good friends and family, we attended every family and friends gatherings together that we could to show support – whatever it was & no matter how frequent because this is how we showed them our love – the boys BSO fratnight, the annual Thanksgiving/Christmas parties with our friends or even fun Walnut backyard boogies at Gar’s, Terrence’s or Maude’s. BUT the truth behind the scenes is that I was in a very restricted and controlling relationship. Most of you know I was beyond loyal – how our family was taught to be. We were so loyal that we would stand by our men no matter what they said to us and would even go above and beyond doing things for them like co-signing for their first car, driving them around gig to gig when they didn’t have a license or car, forcing them to attend record label meetings to learn the business, drawing out their shoe designs, spending every hard earned dollar we earned to support them when they weren’t financially stable with their careers and even giving them advice on dealing with new girlfriends. One night during a typical drunken episode, my jealous boyfriend at the time said, “Why don’t you JUST do girl things? You’re always surrounded by guys! Just be a GIRL.” I was confused because until that point, I don’t really think I knew I was a girl, first of all – my everyday wardrobe consisted of overalls, Timberlands, Charles Barkley or DKNY Jerseys and every color tennis shoe I could buy at my job- the Athlete’s Foot at West Covina Mall. I had 20+ Walnut guy best friends who I loved talking sh*t to, I had a radio show with boys that were like my brothers and I had fun hosting the radio show with our guests that were predominantly male that included everyone from Slum Village to Dwele to A Tribe Called Quest to Delta 9 to Mos Def. He would yell at how embarrassed he was that he heard I was doing all of the above and didn’t like the frequent comments of how they saw his girlfriend here or there surrounded by guys. I can recall a time when a friend called to tell him he saw me freestyling and he couldn’t take it anymore, I had to stop or he was going to leave. (Who knows why I thought I could even freestyle… lol. but I think we all went through our phases of thinking we could be apart of every element of Hip Hop ;)

I guess I kind of understood, He just wanted his “girl” to be a girl and not always surrounded or joking around with the guys – it made him insecure that he wasn’t the only one – especially when he didn’t understand what “OYR, D*ck Boy” (one of many Mike Puruggs 91789 coined phrases) meant – I imagine he always felt like the joke was on him.You guys know my sarcasm can actually get me to say the opposite of what I want to say and that could really make someone overly self conscious. Funny because at the time – No Doubt was on tour that summer with friends I’d frequently visit on the road and I coincidentally heard Gwen sing the song “Just A Girl” at the end of every concert in different cities and it spawned me to write the 4 part series below – feeling her owning being a “girl” I felt I had to – too… It was a college mockumentary/documenary type of thing called “Just Another Girl.” It was a way of venting my frustrations of hearing that I should just do “girl” things. What were girl things? Watch the videos below of Sureshot being the bad guy and portraying every negative sentiment women hear everyday. All this time I was struggling to decipher what were “girl things.” Looking back I realize “girl things” meant staying home and not living or working within my passion but just watching him live his. I REALLY wanted to be a girl so I could be a better girlfriend and future wife but at the same time I couldn’t let go of the person I always was so I trusted my gut and through several years of back and forth – I let go of pretending to be something I never was. I struggled with what being “just a girl” meant and at the end of it, actually made a self mission statement to be the exact opposite… From there I watched him turn into a narcissist jumping from relation to relation without any sense of respect for the women he encountered and what’s sad is that deep down I know that’s not the kind of guy he wanted to turn into but he only felt secure when he felt praised or admired – even by those that were around him for superficial reasons.

I wrote the series about women in the 4 elements of hip hop: graff, b-boying, mc-ing and of course – DJ-ing that the videos below were based on. The premise? “The only way to counteract the stereotype of being JUST another girl, is by JUST not being one…” I had a vision to show the everyday struggles as women that we dealt with but wanted to show a silver lining that if we networked together we could get through the tough times. After speaking to several women in the music industry I heard so many stories that I wanted to portray but on a low budget airplane scale. Alot of it was selfishly to convince myself that everything was going to be okay. I had my own funny stories like one time when I was promoter of a capacity filled club and while I was backstage at the end of the night – the owners yelled “No girlfriends are allowed back stage!” and I laughed at the statement, looked around in shock, trying to see who they were yelling at – umm… it was me that they were yelling at! My Garfield personality came out and I jabbed back – “Not a girlfriend, I’m actually the promoter here to collect the money we made for the night! The money that’s paying YOUR staff.” ;) I watched girls frequently get the 9pm first DJ slot automatically just by hearing their name or tomboy girls being pushed to the back of the line at a club because they weren’t “sexy” enough. I had to visually show these experiences.

Thanks to Vivian and Edward for being amazing directors/producers who saw the vision that was on paper and made it come to life after the initial meetings. We gathered so many of you to create this four part series and alot of you probably didn’t even know the deeper meaning of why you were in it. Indirectly – you were there for me. Inspiring me to be more than I was always told I couldn’t or shouldn’t be. It was something internal that I just had to do, to assure myself that I didn’t need a relationship if the relationship didn’t support who I REALLY was inside. Yes, I was a girl – but I know there are things that girls should still be allowed to do and I wanted to see if I could do them. My mom raised 4 women all by herself and running a successful Farmers Insurance business for over 20 years, she has heard some of what I had heard in the past. If she just stayed back and just did “girl things” – my sisters and I would probably be whirling around a stripper pole right now or struggling to find money by marrying a rich man. ;)
The videos below – although very amateur – were speaking for all of us out there.

It’s funny how serious we thought we were!

JUST ANOTHER GIRL:
Dedicted to all women in the 4 elements of Hip Hop:

PART 1:
The Graff.
Starring Randy Nangpi, sister Chrystal Cruz, Stephanie Hollman

Young girl tries to design a logo for the “Just Another Girl” Network and her brother (played by your favorite Randy Nangpi) draws a picture on the logo. (Of course when directed to draw on the image – Randy draws a blunt on it lol). He also steals her spray cans and she’s forced to either give up, or continue. The girls work together and go back to the drawing board – re-creating the logo that then leads to a series of events trying to bring women of all backgrounds, races and discrimination together.

Untitled from Roslynn Cobarrubias on Vimeo.

PART 2:
The DJ
Starring DJ Aimee, DJ Addverse, Sureshot, Jayski

Shot also at Cal State Fullerton Titan Radio in our first studio with DJ Sureshot’s infamous lines that had me dying that day “girls should stick to cheerleading, make up and barbie dolls. Girl dancers should stick to stripping.” Plot here: Female DJ (played by the beautiful and incredibly talented Aimee) trying to rock the turntables at DJ Icy Ice’s Stacks Vinyl in Cerritos and kicked off the stage by male DJs (played by Sureshot and Jayski) laugh behind her, even making sexual jokes and visuals about her, kick her off the stage and throw her vinyl – but check out how I catch it! Now that is some crazy effects right there! lol. Rather than get discouraged and give up, the female DJ is prompted to meet another female DJ (played by Addverse) and together they are newly inspired.

PART 3:
The MC.

Starring Sureshot’s favorite cousin Martin, Trek Life, DJ Addverse & many more!
Female MCs trying to rock the mic but were bombarded by male MCs trying to battle. (I heart you Delta 9 but I thought of you when writing this part ;) Rather than get discouraged and give up or walk away, their encouraged to join forces and take the guys out.

PART 4:
The B-Girl.
Starring Monisa Moreno (We miss you!), Marie Viray Cabral, Terrence Aguas, Ismael, Tish, Monique & many more!

The scene starts off where Monique and I aren’t let into the club or told we have to pay (even though we were told girls get in free) because we’re dressed in tracksuits and the pretty girls (played by Monisa Moreno and Marie Viray) were automatically let into the club. We change out of our suits, slightly a little more feminine and we are finally let into the club where the battle begins. Amazing dancer Tish takes the cypher followed by LA dancers you all know and love. Monique doesn’t want to battle – she just wants to dance – yet she is mocked by the guys around her. Rather than get discouraged – we team up and turn the cypher into a full dancing party. BUT – while leaving the club – the Just Another Girl networking posters are again vandalized by thugs played by Terrence Aguas and DJ Jayski. Frustrated at the day’s courses, instead of giving up – we remember that there are more posters in the car – we replace the old ones with new ones and the overall theme of “never giving up” sets in. Don’t laugh at the quality of the videos, it was before HD Canons existed. Tom and Chris didn’t invent Myspace yet so there wasn’t a social network to share it – glad there is now!
I envision these videos becoming an actual movie one day and I can’t wait to see it, being that we all lived it…

Don’t get me wrong, no grudges here. What’s happened in the past only helps to innovate the present for a better future (connecting the 3 levels is the “Third Floor” way…;)

I believe everything happens for a reason and while a majority of you supported my decision several times to get out of several bad relationships to focus on myself and grow into the person I am today, some of you know it wasn’t an easy path and I lost myself a few times while I was finding myself. I cherish every memory that I have – whether good or bad – as all women do. At the end of the day if you don’t know how to love someone – you have to step away to let it strengthen the both of you. I know people can change and probably regret alot of what they said and did – especially with the influence of alcohol and drugs hindering them in the past, but so long as they are humbled and always speak the truth within themselves, everything will be okay for the future.

I’m proud of how far we’ve all come – sometimes the best way to succeed and fight for your dreams is to separate and do them on your own. But one thing I know? You need the support of your friends AND family to really enjoy it – otherwise your surrounded by people who don’t really know you and your stuck “pretending” that everything is okay when everyone around you knows it isn’t. At the end of the day, it’s really those that were there for you and loved you when you had nothing that should be the ones you celebrate when life hands you everything materially you could have ever dreamed for. Because at the end of the day, when the cameras are gone and the lights are off – and all the people there for the wrong reasons, could be gone and what would you be left with? I thank my family and friends who are there for me on a daily, especially on the days when I want to go crazy!

so remember ladies – the ONLY way to counteract the stereotype of being JUST another girl, is by just NOT being one….
Alot more exciting things to come in the near future. Can’t wait to get started on continuing to bring us all together…

p.s.
Can’t wait to get behind the turntables again for you soon. Still practicing and learning the basics that I should have learned years ago but I’m REALLY excited that I can do so without any restriction and help you leave that 9-5 up on the shelf and just enjoy yourself!!!

Sorry I wrote so long, but I’m not the dumbass who spent all this time reading it! 143! ;)

(VIDEO) A Tribe Called Quest Interviews by Celeste Arevalo at LA Film Festival for Pacific Rim

So proud of my little sister from another mister for interviewing my favorite group of all time – A Tribe Called Quest at the red carpet of the
Los Angeles Film Festival. I’m hearing good reviews so far from friends like super producer Stro the 89th Key and a few others. I wish I didn’t have to witness some of the stuff that I did within that group and I wish another album came out after the Anthology, BUT I can say that all of their albums – even “Beats, Rhymes & Life” will remain classics to me and on repeat.

Ali Shaheed Muhammad:

Phife Dawg:

Check out one of my favorite Myspace Music Release Shows ever in Hawaii in conjunction with Dig Lifestyles – ATCQ Q-Tip rocking solo songs but most importantly – Tribe classics – such a fan I forgot I was working and stood in the front row with my hands up half the time. Whatttanyerd. ;)

Is Justin Timberlake the new Tom?

This picture had me crack up I had to post it… Thanks Puruggs!

I think Tom and Chris have a way more interesting story to tell then what we all watched in the Social Network coincidentally starring Justin as Napster founder, Sean Parker. I wonder if art will continue to imitate life and someone is sending a script to JT as we type – to play the role of Tom in a future movie… Who do you think would play TedSkillet? Chris? Josh? HotMaria? Hmm… So fun to think about… Can I get a tiny cameo and be played by my look a likes Jessica Alba and Angelina Jolie? lol. OYR! I think Margaret Cho would play me… ;)
But I kinda like this idea, don’t try to steal it! ;)

Here is a recent story from the LA Times:
By Dawn C. Chmielewski and Jessica Guynn, Los Angeles Times
“How Justin Timberlake Bought Into the new Myspace”
July 1, 2011

I hope to meet Nicole Winnaman one day.

How did Justin Timberlake — who in last year’s movie “The Social Network” portrayed a pivotal figure in the history of Facebook’s phenomenal growth — wind up owning part of rival social network Myspace?

It’s all about connections.

An entertainment branding executive learned two weeks ago of talks to sell Myspace. She jumped to bring the pop star and ‘Social Network’ actor into the mix.

Nicole Winnaman, president and founder of entertainment branding firm Winnaman & Associates, learned a little more than two weeks ago that Irvine-based advertising network Specific Media was in talks to acquire Myspace from News Corp. The executive, who has paired musicians like Justin Bieber, Britney Spears and Pink with well-known consumer brands, approached Timberlake’s manager with a proposal to take a stake in the struggling Myspace as part of the new owner’s attempt to bring sexy back to the once-dominant social network.

Last Friday, even as Specific Media was hammering out deal points with News Corp. over its $35-million acquisition of Myspace, the digital media company’s founders — brothers Tim and Chris Vanderhook — met with Winnaman and Timberlake’s manager at the futuristic Encounter Restaurant at Los Angeles International Airport to talk about a potential partnership. Timberlake joined the meeting by phone.

On Monday, the Vanderhooks boarded a flight to New York to meet Timberlake in person the following day. By Tuesday night, lawyers for Timberlake and Specific Media were racing to close the partnership deal in time for Wednesday’s acquisition announcement.

“I don’t think anyone slept for 72 hours,” Tim Vanderhook recalled.

Timberlake’s manager, Johnny Wright, said his client — whose career spans many forms of media, including music, film and television — recognizes the power of social media in shaping pop culture. In “The Social Network,” Timberlake portrayed Sean Parker, an Internet entrepreneur who helped Facebook Inc. founder Mark Zuckerberg secure financing for his fledgling website.

In the case of Myspace, Timberlake made his own undisclosed financial investment, according to Wright.

Timberlake declined to be interviewed for this story, but Wright insisted: “This is not a vanity ownership. He wants to make it relevant in a big way.”

Neither Timberlake’s team nor Specific Media would offer any particular plans for revitalizing Myspace. But Vanderhook said he and his brothers understand digital advertising and how to move traffic on the Internet. He said he hopes Timberlake will be able to give the flagging site renewed social relevance.

“Justin is a tremendously bright guy who is really passionate about the opportunity for artists to build a community with fans,” Vanderhook said. “He’s excited about the platform and the ability to interact with his fans. He’s well aware of the all the unique opportunities that digital media affords someone like him. He will use the platform himself and show other artists how to use it.”

Justin Timberlake To Join Creative Team At Myspace… will he help bring SexyBack? & (VIDEO) How Lil Jon discovered Myspace…

Okay that’s the last time I will use that pun today, maybe tomorrow… ;)

Here’s the Story by the Huffington Post:
“File this under ‘life imitating art.’ Boy bander-turned-actor Justin Timberlake has signed on to lead creative strategy at the newly sold Myspace.

The decision was announced by Myspace’s new owners, Specific Media, Wednesday afternoon not long after the acquisition itself was made public. Under his new title Timberlake will take the lead at a “Social Network” all his own and develop the site’s creative direction and strategy.

In a media release, Timberlake was optimistically quoted as saying, “There’s a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect. Myspace has the potential to be that place.”

Besides his recent film portrayal of Internet tycoon Sean Parker, Timberlake’s involvement in the music industry is likely what drew them to the celeb. It’s a strong indication that Specific Media is likely to grow on Myspace’s assumed roll as a digital music and entertainment destination.”

It’s a sad day because we lost so many great employees and friends, but next week starts a new chapter. Not only are we going to move forward but we’re going to revert back to what the core of Myspace is – the connections through music and the platform to share our passions. Will we bring “sexyback” with JT? Only time will tell… but it’s going to be a fun ride. I’m sure there will be a party in your neck of the woods soon to celebrate and I hope you come to party! ;)

p.s. this week marks my 7 year anniversary at this company – together with your input we’ll put together the best Myspace stories and events. We all have them.

My favorite?
The day I met Chris DeWolfe outside the El Segundo Intermix office via Tess Taylor of NARIP and he said “we’re creating a profile built for musicians, what are you guys’ ideas on how to market it?” – LIGHTBULB! GENIUS WHY DIDN’T I COME UP WITH THAT IDEA!… thus spawning an unconventional marketing plan that included hours of standing outside handing out flyers & cold-calling alot of you one by one trying to explain what Myspace is – with the most reluctance coming from the music industry. It amazes me to fast forward years later to see our teams producing concerts for Jay-Z and Rihanna with the help of the record labels and artists themselves.

And don’t we all remember when we actually met Tom in person? I can remember my first shock but casual meeting when there was less than 30 people here, (individual profiles didn’t have URLs, there were only 2MM and not 200MM registered users.) I was proud of the fact to say “Yes, Tom is a real person, and a very hardworking one” whenever asked if he was real and actually getting to see people’s reaction when they first met him in Hawaii or Miami. Soon followed by a – “do you know Ted Skillet?” ;) I can also remember one of my first favorite memories was Bich Ngoc’s smile at one of the first Myspace parties that involved musicians was in conjunction with the Black Eyed Peas to promote “The APL Song” music video. Funny how fast time goes by! (Picture above still sits in my office from that party) – yes, that’s Fergie and Rufio in one picture with the founders of Myspace. Classic. I think we have to re-take a 2011 version of that picture!

and to make you laugh even more? Watch this interesting video of how eloquently Lil Jon talks about how he discovered Myspace.
Isn’t it funny how everyone has their first story of how they discovered Myspace social networking in itself?
(this was our very first video interview that Steve Busch and I recorded on a hand held camera in our Santa Monica office.)

p.s. Why am I still here you ask?
A: It’s not because I haven’t had offers to leave, but because whatever booming company we were in the past, struggling to overcome obstacles in the present or will reinvent ourselves to be in the future. With or without the name of “Myspace” – I love my job and as long as I’m get to do what I love, I’m not going anywhere… Doing what you love is the “Third Floor” way of connecting the past, present & future.. ;)

Official Press Release from Specific Media:

Specific Media, a digital media company, today announced its acquisition of Myspace, a leading social networking destination for consumers, celebrities and artists. As part of the deal, Emmy and Grammy winning artist Justin Timberlake will also take an ownership stake and play a major role in developing the creative direction and strategy for the company moving forward. Specific Media and Timberlake plan to unveil their vision for the site in an exclusive press conference later this summer.

“There’s a need for a place where fans can go to interact with their favorite entertainers, listen to music, watch videos, share and discover cool stuff and just connect. Myspace has the potential to be that place,” says Timberlake. “Art is inspired by people and vice versa, so there’s a natural social component to entertainment. I’m excited to help revitalize Myspace by using its social media platform to bring artists and fans together in one community.”

Myspace has created a robust social networking infrastructure that connects people with the artists and content they love. Specific Media and Timberlake plan to evolve Myspace into the premiere digital destination for original shows, video content and music.

Specific Media will also leverage the Myspace social networking infrastructure to deploy socially-activated advertising campaigns, enabling brands to turn their campaigns viral by allowing users to share their favorite ads with friends.

Brothers Tim, Chris and Russell Vanderhook founded Specific Media in 1999 to address the needs of the burgeoning online advertising space. Since then, the company has developed into one of the world’s largest online advertising companies, with capabilities spanning addressable advertising, original programming and cross-media distribution. By bringing its advertising technology and Fortune 500 client base to Myspace, Specific Media is creating a digital hub where consumers, content and brands connect based on mutual interest and relevance.

“We’re thrilled about the opportunity to rebuild and reinvigorate Myspace,” said Tim Vanderhook, CEO of Specific Media. “We look forward to partnering with someone as talented as Justin Timberlake, who will lead the business strategy with his creative ideas and vision for transforming Myspace. This is the next chapter of digital media, and we are excited to have a hand in writing the script.”

As part of the agreement, News Corporation will take a minority equity stake in Specific Media. Additional terms of the agreement are confidential and will not be disclosed.

My 9 year old niece, Marlee Rae singing Adele “Rolling in the Deep” acapella…

My niece Marlee Rae that just turned 9 has been singing and DJing since the age of 2. Just yesterday she was cutting up shirts and the family was taking her to Justin Bieber and Jonas Brother concerts and now she’s singing Adele. And last Monday when I surprised Trevor Kelley on set for the Joe Jonas Pandora interview, she had no reaction when she saw him. SMH

I didn’t even know who Adele was until she started listening and singing to her from listening with her Mom via her Pandora station. (Kudos to Matt Rosenberg, Kim Cruz and Victoria. ;) Kids grow up too fast these days! I predict this little one will be an amazing performer one day (AFTER she graduates college ;)

Thanks Keith Fujimoto and Chrystal Cruz for making this amazing surprise!

Defined: DESTINY

After several years of dreaming about this day and working hard to making it happen…
DJ Jay-P & I will be hitting the road this summer.
Alas the Third Floor Network on a 12 City Tour!

Destiny refers to a predetermined course of events… It may be conceived as a predetermined future, whether in general or of an individual. It is a concept based on the belief that there is a fixed natural order to the cosmos.

Tour dates to comes soon…
Sounds cheesy but don’t stop believing in destiny, it will take years to reveal itself, but when it does -
it will be worth all the wait and patience you put into it…
